Mighty: We're in cahoots with connected culture

Yeah, we wrestle with unicorns at Mighty.

Mighty Digital is a mash-up of dreamers and planners, artists and raconteurs, designers and developers, analysts and optimizers. We use entertainment, social media, music, websites, interactive displays and software applications to make brands famous. We are dangerously obsessed with the internets.

  1. My new diet consists mostly of protein and sparkles.
Goes great on a sandwich, or even in spaghetti sauce.
Recipes on reverse.
  2. The bunny and the egg.

    The long weekend approaches.

    Get out your best brooches.

    For the forecast looks sunny,

    For our favourite bunny.

    Hiding in the grass.

    Or maybe at mass.

Oh, chocolate eggs, you’re so yummy.

    Get in my tummy!

  3. Super meeting with Adrienne and Simon from AUX TV this morning.

  5. Spring Cleaning

Since the weather was pretty blah last weekend (unlike today, 17 degrees!), I decided to do some spring cleaning. Now, I’m not proud that I tend to store stuff under my bed, but with the lack of storage space, that’s where stuff ends up going…

Long story short, I decided that I wouldn’t beat-around-the-bush about it anymore, and I finally cleaned out EVERYTHING that was under my bed. What were the highlights of my findings?

    - $3.10 in an old wallet

    - My old (broken) skateboard

    - [pic below] No, that’s not a satellite phone. It’s my Fido cellphone from highschool!!

    My old highschool cellphone

I had that cellphone in highschool, whereas now we’re creating iPhone apps. Just goes to show how young the digital industry really is…

  7. Smart is inspired development and design

Last week, Mighty launched 2010Tucson.ca - part of an integrated campaign for Hyundai Auto Canada – with the campaign’s supporting TV spots debuting during Super Bowl XLIV.

This project was completed within a very tight timeline – with only 4 weeks for everything from the creative development to the production of the entire site, including a French version, and the supporting rich media banners in both languages.

In terms of the creative concept and content, this site is based loosely on a designer’s sketchbook. Incorporated in the sketchbook idea is a narrative intended to demonstrate how the designer’s day-to-day observations influenced and inspired different aspects of the vehicle’s design.

It was an approach that was not solely focused on the Car, but rather everyday elements of information that is relatable, but can also stand alone in terms of interest.

The result:  a thoughtful look at how Hyundai’s first European designed CUV embodies an inspired design.

The “inspirational” content is brought to life through small animations and audio and video clips - all of which are shareable.

What also makes this particularly cool is that the content and the approach we took to building the site allowed for speedy and efficient development, along with some great technical programming elements and techniques.

We used Cufón - a modern Web font rendering technique that is Web standards-friendly and accessible. This makes the site’s “Cufóned” text completely accessible to site visitors using assistive-technology to experience the site, and it optimizes the site for search engine indexing.

This allowed us to not have to rely solely on Flash or images, but rather, plain HTML, which makes it easy to edit copy and for users’ browsers to output the text in the font we specified using Javascript.

We were able to reuse most of the creative assets for the French version, reducing the time it took to deploy the French site. We only had to swap in the copy and tweak the positioning. By not relying solely on Flash, we were able to follow proper web standards while building the site.

A series of 7 supporting rich media banners were created as a tease to the site. Using short videos, we tied specific inspirations to content on the site.
