Needs more counter-clockwise swirl
I have a feeling the goodness of Brand New might be common knowledge, but much like a long-lost rerun of Star Trek: TNG I haven’t seen, it’s new to me. Brand New provides erudite opinions on brand identity work, and breaks logo branding work down in a simple, compelling way. Prior to entering the advertising world I’d see a corporate rebrand and think ‘So what? They tweaked the font and added a swirl’ (not that kind of swirl). Now, layman or not, Brand New let’s you sound off in a trio of polls at the end of each post - and seeing where you stand can be edifying.
Their recent post about the redesign of Yellow Pages done by TAXI (who used a Buddhist pebble story as a metaphor for the brand mark) pictures all the permutations the agency went through to get to - like it or not - the final product. Bookmarked.
As an added bonus, Brand New is only one of a series of excellent websites dedicated to design beneath the UnderConsideration umbrella. Where, if you happen to be a fan of this sort of thing, you will no doubt find yourself stumbling upon some of the great design work and thought being done today.
